The Besom exists to be a bridge between those who want to give – time/skills/money/things – to those who are in need. It ensures that what is given is used effectively.
The Besom is a national charity with bases all around the country. James Odgers founded the charity in 1987, after a trip to Hong Kong, working with Jackie Pullinger. He noticed that the gap between those who have and those who don’t exists not only in Hong Kong, but all over the world. He wrote the Besom vision on the flight on the way home. The Besom in York was started by Rob and Sam just over 12 years ago.
The Besom in York is a registered charity. Our charity number is 1133905.
The Besom in York trustees are Hannah Ainsworth, Richard Grant, Neil Hulse and Mark and Emily Alty.
